Meet an Author–Ginger Scott!

I’m thrilled to introduce February’s fantastic guest author!

*mixture of squeaky basketball shoes on the court plus keyboard sounds*

(She’s a writer, journalist and sports lover so this makes sense, at least to me it does lol)

Ginger Scott!

Although I’d heard about Ginger, she and I just met recently through our mutual friend, the fabulous author Anne Mercier. I love meeting new authors, but it’s sometimes kinda hard to do since we’re all so busy with our lives–writing, kids & sometimes full-time jobs. But I’m happy Ginger & I met because you can never have enough friends & now I have someone whose brain I might have to pick if/when I get stuck on a story line! lol

Ginger writes ah-mazing contemporary romance as well as young adult stories that dig deep and deal with some pretty powerful issues. This Is Falling (Falling #1) is so freaking good & I was kind of exhausted after reading it because I experienced every emotion known to man lol Oh! And this is the same book that hit #1 on Amazon in the Teen Romance category which is awesome and well-deserved!

Make sure to check out Ginger’s GIVEAWAY below!

Let’s get to know more about Ginger!

1. If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you win a medal for?

Ginger: Parallel parking.

2. What’s your go-to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?

Ginger: The Killers.

3. What’s something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?

Ginger: See their favorite band live.

4. What’s something that a ton of people are obsessed with but you don’t get the point of?

Ginger: I will brace myself for the things y’all will want to throw at me. The Beatles. Just…meh. I’m more of a Stones girl. Also, Mama Mia the movie. I know. Bring on the razzing.    (MAJOR razzing at your movie choice jk…kinda lmao 😉 )

5. What are you looking forward to most in the next 10 years?

Ginger: I’m actually kind of a “live the now” person. I try not to look too far ahead. I want to enjoy every minute of the present.

6. What fad or trend do you wish would come back?

Ginger: Leg warmers. I rock them still.

7. What question do you most want to know the answer to?

Ginger: Will they like it? (This applies with every single book I put out. Ah the terrifying joy of publishing.)   (Amen, sister lol)

8. PC or Mac?

Ginger: Mac. So very much Mac.

9. Would you rather give up bathing for a month or give up the internet for a month?

Ginger: Take my bath. Don’t judge.  ( 😛 )

10. What’s your guilty pleasure on Netflix?

Ginger: It changes literally all of the time. Just finished Mad Men (OMG) and we’re watching Godless. Now…it’s not on Netflix, but we had to binge so this counts…you’ve gotta watch Mr. Robot. It’s legit crazy good. Total head trip.  (Mad Men is one of my upcoming to watch among the other bazillion shows I wanna get to)

11. What’s one of your biggest pet peeves?

Ginger: When people aren’t nice.

12. What was your favorite childhood book?

Ginger: The Outsiders.

13. What’s the first book that made you cry?

Ginger: Great Expectations(GE made me cry ’cause I taught it to freshmen for 7 years & they didn’t understand it arrrgghh)

14. If you could market/sell only one of your books for the rest of your life, which would you choose and why?

Ginger: The Hard Count. That book is the most important thing I’ve written. It’s the story of a Latino boy from a rough neighborhood who gets a scholarship to the wealthy private school on the other side of town, and falls in love with his coach’s daughter. It’s about racism in high school, about the pressures of a nationally ranked football program, about acceptance and tolerance and gang violence, and what a community should feel like. It’s my everything.

15. Which character have you written that’s most like you?

Ginger: Nolan Lennox from Waiting on the Sidelines. Mixed with the sassy parts of Joss from the Like Us duet.

16. What do you munch on when writing?

Ginger: It seems to be just about anything not glued down to the pantry shelf – LOL!  (bwahaha)

17. What is your writing kryptonite?

Ginger: Busy summer with my son, major sports championships (The World Series is a holiday – like 2 weeks of a holiday), and stomach bugs.

18. What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?

Ginger: My penmanship. I type really well so who needs it.

19. If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do?

Ginger: I would have confidence that my stories were good enough a lot earlier.

20. Have you ever Googled yourself?

Ginger: Oh absolutely. What’s crazy is there are others!  (LOL)

21. Music or silence when you write?

Ginger: Both. Some things work for one scene but not another.

22. Is there any other genre you’d like to try writing?

Ginger: Fantasy. Magical fantasy.

23. What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?

Ginger: Trying to keep them authentic.

24. If you could spend the day with one of your characters, who would it be and what would you do?

Ginger: Wes Stokes. To be honest? I’d probably just stare at him LOL!             ( 😛 )

25. Which character in your books would you be least likely to get along with?

Ginger: House from Wild Reckless. I tend to call people on their BS.

26. How do you choose the names of your characters?

Ginger: Sometimes I hear the name somewhere, and other times I play around with combinations until they feel like they fit. I’ve met people with cool names that I save, too. I have three teen readers who I’m saving for a book down the road. Their names make the perfect group of friends, and these girls are awesome.

27. What does literary success look like to you?

Ginger: To be able to keep doing this every day of my life and still keep the heat/air and lights on.

28. What’s one thing you’d like readers to get out of your books?

Ginger: I want them to miss the characters—even the small ones—when they’re away from them.

29. What’s the best compliment you’ve gotten when it comes to your books?

Ginger: That they feel incredibly real. That’s my biggest goal.

30. Anything you’d like to say to your readers and fans?

Ginger: I love you to the moon! I mean it, too. You have no idea what you’ve done for my self-esteem, my determination, my pride and my love of the written word. You are it for me.

31. Can you tell us what you’ve got coming up next?

Ginger: Memphis is coming out Feb. 23rd. It’s an old-school boxing romance that has that Rocky feel to it. There are painful twists, and sexy turns. It’s new adult, and I can’t wait for people to read it. After that, I have a few mature YA titles planned. I can’t share much yet, but they will be moody and scratch at the insides. I can feel them already.   (Woohoo! Only a couple more days! Can’t wait!)

Thank you so much for stopping by, Ginger! I wish you more amazing success with all of your fabulous books! ❤
